Tiny Cubone Crochet Pattern

A while back I got a request for a tiny Cubone, but all of the patterns available weren't really my cup of tea so I wrote my own!  I had been meaning to put the nearly nonsensical scraps of pattern notes into a legible pattern for quite a while, so I finally sat down and forced myself to write.

I hope you enjoy the pattern, and feel free to let me know if there's any issues. (Preferably in the comments so others can see the solution if they had the same problem.)

These patterns take time to design and write out. If you enjoyed using my pattern, please consider supporting me by paying what you can for the pattern by using the "buy me a coffee" button to the right.

Scissors
3.5mm crochet hook

Abbreviations:

Head

Starting with your scull colour. (I just used beige yarn.)

Sc 8 in magic loop

Inc x 8 (16)
*Sc, Inc* x 8 (24)
Sc 4 rows
Sc 4, inc, Sc 14, inc, Sc 4 (26)

Sc 3, Dec x 5, Sc 3 (11)

Don't FO, you'll be making the body once you attach the eyes.

Eyes
Starting with the taupe yarn
CH 2, SC 9 into 1st CH. (Or make magic loop and SC 9 into that, leaving the loop loose enough to fit the safety eyes.
Switch to beige yarn
Sc x 9 around, FO.

Put safety eyes through the center.
Place eyes 6 down, 5 apart

Fasten eyes, and stuff the head.

Body
Starting from the head where you left off, using Taupe yarn

*Sc, inc* x 3 (9)
Sc 9

(You're making a half disk shape.)

Fangs

Inc, Sc 3 (5)
Inc, Sc 4 (6)
Inc, Sc 5 (7)
Inc, Sc 6 (8)
FO

Tummy
With the darker beige
SC 8 in magic loop
*Inc 2, Sc 2* x 2 (16)
FO

Arms
SC 5 in magic loop
Sc 2 rows
FO

Legs
SC 6 in magic loop
Sc 2 rows
FO

Assembly

Sew the horns, fangs, nose and face bones on using the pictures provided for placement.

Sew on the arms, legs, and tail.

Back Spikes
These are super simple to make:
SC 7, sew the chain into the shape of two tiny triangles on the back.  Make sure to FO firmly.  (I used knots.)

Bone
CH 7
Slst into 4th stitch from hook
CH 4
Sl st into that same stitch as before
SC, Slst, FO.
Sew the bone onto one of the hands.

With some black yarn, embroider the nostrils.

And You're Done! :D

An Early Post With Some DIY Valentines Day Gifts!

If you're anything like me, you're well accustomed to the feelings associated with procrastination; especially when it comes to gift giving.  The initial deluge of ideas and the feeling of contentment as you tell yourself that there's no point in taking action yet.  You have everything well under control.  This is customarily followed by panic many days later when you see the deadline looming much closer than you expected and you're thrown into a frantic scramble, desperately trying to find the perfect gift that you had pictured so clearly weeks earlier.

Seem familiar?  Well worry not, because I have two perfect DIY gifts below! (Assuming your giftee likes adorableness and the TMNT.)

Oh yes, Tiny. Teenage. Mutant. Ninja. Turtles.

OR

An adorable and cuddly bear made with Bernat Blanket Yarn. (This pattern is only available from my shop though.)

I'll be posting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle pattern for free below, along with the heart that I made for the bear.  The bear pattern can be found here on my shop.

These patterns take time to design and write out. If you enjoyed using my pattern, please consider supporting me by paying what you can for the pattern by using the "buy me a coffee" button to the right.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

By: LoopTeeLoops

What you will need:

Felt in red, blue, orange, and purple
Loops and Threads impeccable in Forrest (green) and Butterscotch (yellow)
Worsted weight yarn in brown
8mm safety eyes (Alternatively, you can use black felt.)
A hot glue gun (or thread in the colours of the bandannas.)
Tapestry needle
2.75 mm crochet hook

Abbreviations:
CH - chain
SL ST- slip stitch
ST- stitch
SC - Single Crochet
INC- Increase- crochet 2 stitches in 1 sp
DEC- Skip one stitch, and SC in the other as a way of decreasing.

HEAD:
Row 1: With green, Ch 2, and sch 5 in first ch.  Join with a SL ST. (6 stitches)
The second stitch of the Ch 2 counts as one of the 6 stitches around.
*Alternatively, you can also make a magic loop and SC 6 in it.*
Row 2: INC in each stitch around (12 stitches)
Row 3: *SC 1, INC* x 6 (18 stitches)
Row 4: *SC 2, INC* x 6 (24 stitches)
Row 5-7: SC around (24 stitches)
Row 8: *SC 2, DEC* x6 (18 stitches)
Row 9: *SC 1, DEC* x 6 (12 stitches)

Now it’s time to attach the mask and eyes.  It’s helpful to stuff the head after you attach the eyes, before you glue the back of the mask.

- Cut a thin band of felt, slightly wider than the safety eyes.
- Mark where the eyes will go on the felt, and make two small holes, so you can push the eyes through
- I placed the eyes four stitches apart.  (Count on the head for measurement.)
- The bandana was placed beneath the fourth stitch (counting from the top of the head.)
- Install the eyes, and fasten the back of the bandana with hot glue.  Alternatively, you can sew it on with a similar colour of thread.
Finishing the head: To finish, DEC until there are 8 stitches remaining.  Do not fasten off, instead change to yellow.  Stuff the extra ends into the head to hide them

BODY
Row 1: INC in each ST (16 stitches)
Row 2-4: SC around (16 stitches)
Row 5: INC once on each side of the body, SC the rest (18 stitches)
Row 6: SC around (18 stitches)
Row 7-close: DEC, and SL ST the last few, fastening off and weaving the yarn into body.

SHELL:
Row 1: CH 2, SC 6 in first ST. (7 stitches)
Row 2: INC in each ST (14 stitches)
Row 3: *SCH, INC* x 7 (21 stitches)
Row 4: SCH 20 stitches, SL ST the last (21 stitches)
Glue or sew the shell onto the back of the turtle, weaving in ends.

ARMS AND LEGS:
Row 1: CH 2, SC 5 in first ST. Join with SL ST (6 stitches)
Row 2: SC 5, SL ST and fasten off

Sew the arms and legs on, weaving in ends.

And you’re finished!

If the person you're gifting to is more into the cuddly, huggable types of gifts, I've made this adorable and soft bear with a heart!

(Here's a less polished picture with a banana for scale)

The heart pattern is below, and once again, you can get the bear pattern here.  Since it's made with Bernat blanket yarn it's both incredibly soft, and equally incredibly fast to make.  (Mine took me just an afternoon!)  Here's the Ravelry page if you want to show off your project there.

Crochet Heart Pattern:

Make 2 of rows 1-4
Row 1: Make a magic loop and sc 7 into it
Row 2: INC x 7  (14 stitches)
Row 3: *SC, INC* x 7 (21 stitches)
Row 4: SC x 21

Join the two domes together with a slip stitch and follow the pattern below to finish attaching them.
For row 5, you'll just be SC'ing around both the domes, to start creating the middle of the heart shape.

Row 5: SC 7, DEC, SC 8 (leave 4 stitches on both sides in the middle now, you'll sew those together at the end), SC 8, DEC, SC 7 (32 stitches)
Row 6: *SC 4, DEC* x 5, SC 3 (28 stitches)
Row 7: SC x 28
Row 8: *SC 3, DEC* x 5, SC, DEC (22 stitches)
Row 9: SC x 22
Row 10: *SC 2, DEC* x 5, SC 2 (17 stitches)
Row 11: *SC, DEC* x 5, DEC (11 stitches)
Row 12: SC x 11
Row 13: DEC 5, SC (6 stitches)
Row 14: DEC 3
Slip stitch to close, and FO.

I hope you enjoy the patterns!
